happy terrific two

today is my 2 year anniversary of blogging.

first of all, i want to say thank you for reading my blog. and all of its randomness.

i have enjoyed meeting as many of you as i can (via blog comments, emails, facebook, instagram, etc…). i have enjoyed reading your blogs. i have enjoyed trying your recipes and experiencing your life through your stories. i have enjoyed reading about ingredients i don’t even like, and have not “enjoyed” reading about your dating woes and disasters. but you are all fantastic writers, and that’s what keeps me reading.

there’s nothing sophisticated or themed about my blog. it’s just a bunch of random experiences that i want to share.

and with that said, stay tuned for more random experiences that i will still be sharing!

may you all have a fantastic week. =)

xoxo,

sierra lei

01/05/2012 random post

it’s an ungodly hour of the night and i’m back to being a night owl…again.

here is a bunch of random thoughts….

a junior high/high school friend of mine is getting married back home (saipan) on the 7th. one of the downfalls of working in the retail industry is that there is no vacation time around the holidays (and that would be in between october and february). i would have loved to be at the wedding, and would have loved to see my parents who i haven’t seen in 3 years (*sob*), and would have loved to bask in the saipan sun during these cold winter months. but for now, best wishes to my friend and her soon-to-be husband! i wish them all the best. =)

after work, i grabbed a late dinner with a friend. we chatted over finger foods, non-alcoholic beverages, and dessert at TGIFridays because it was the only place open late on a wednesday night. we happened to sit next to neat wall decor…and of course, since i have my camera handy at all times, here are 2 winning pictures of the night:

excellent.

during our late-night girl pow wow sessions, we can talk about anything with or without substance…like the crazy night out we had a few days ago…or the cute boys we recently met…or figuring out where i should live in the next few months…or dating, in general.

which brought up an idea for my blog…

should i start blogging about my dating life?

i’m about to turn 30 and i’m single.

(alright, so i began blogging to post up shoe and cupcake inspirations on top of posting about everyday random acts of kindness and the positive things that happen in my life…and then i started posting tons of pictures of events that i’ve attended, on top of posting about the jewelry i wear to work…..and now DATING?…..yes.)

but wouldn’t that make for a good blog topic every once in a while? i guess it would if the stories were interesting. i’m not sure how exciting my dating life would be. but the characters that pursue me are pretty interesting individuals, that’s for sure.

i will make sure to change the names of each individual, to prevent embarrassment and shame.

JUST KIDDING…on the latter part, not the former.

i might even go as far as asking y’all, the readers, to name each person i talk about. that would be fun. but let’s not get carried away with the nicknames or anything…we’ll keep it simple.

and with that being said…

i am suppose to meet someone this week….i don’t like to say, “go on a date” because i’m stubborn and it sounds too official. also, it was suppose to be a “date” but because i’m still recovering from being sick earlier this week, eating wouldn’t be a great idea since my tummy still needs to take baby steps before it starts consuming food like a starving man….i didn’t even feel well after eating finger foods tonight. bleh. so this indian dining experience has to be put on hold until a later date (it sounded great, though…like one of those dates in which it would take me 4 hours and 23 outfit changes to get ready before i decide on a cute top and jeans in the end…and maybe a paper bag to breath in and out of because i’d be way too nervous). we might just make it a coffee-grabbing deal instead.

but back to this guy. he’s 35. he’s hispanic. he’s handsome. he’s a libra (for all you zodiac-crazy friends of mine). and he’s very passionate about traveling…which i’m very envious of, because i would be completely content with visiting half of the places he has. he just got back from spending a month out of the country for “christmas break” as i like to call it. must be nice. i can already predict the dialogue when we meet:

him: so how was your christmas?

me: so what was the first thing you ate when you got there?

him: and how was work this holiday season?

me: so did you eat any good dessert?

him: so what are you doing next week?

me: what was the best thing you ate there?

oh, of course i’m gonna wonder if he took pictures of his food, but i already know he didn’t….because only crazy people do that…

why did i tell my mom that i was going on a “date” this week? now she’s going to be sitting around with her phone in hand, waiting for me to call her…every day…until i do. and then she’s going to want to know every detail. i guess i better meet this guy so i can give her good mother/daughter girly gossip. now that i think about it, that would be fun. we have discussed boyfriends in the past, but not prospects or “first dates.” *getting nervous*

i’m going to end this topic now before i ruin anything…tune in later on this week for an update on whether it was a hit or miss or epic fail. thank you.

in other news…

i have a new journal for 2012. and yes, it’s a moleskine. it’s the moleskine 2012 daily diary/planner. it has a page per day, so it will force me to write in it every day. it can’t be hard to write a page a day, right? WRONG. i failed miserably in 2010-not even half the journal was written in. i was very upset. so this year, i am determined to write/draw/scribble in it every day. whether it’s a full page of a terrible rant or a scribble of a song lyric or a drawing of something that i got bored and doodled, i will have something in my journal every day. that is one of my resolutions.

what is my other new year resolution?

to meet and blog about one person a week. that’s 52 new people i meet for 2012. these will not be people i already know-they must start off as complete strangers. i will accept them if they are friends of friends, so long as i have never met them. this one might be hard because i could spend weeks hiding under a rock…so i guess i better be social…and i better be social OUT of the pool hall. i do meet some interesting individuals there, though. my camera will be with me, and there will be pictures of these new and potential friends. =) cheers to this adventure!

my other resolutions are personal, but once achieved, i will definitely blog about them. =)

i haven’t shot pool in weeks…and it feels kinda good…i’m not sure whether i will be shooting pool by the end of the year or not. we’ll see about that. more on that in another blog.

i guess i should get some rest now. thank you for reading my random junk of the evening. =)

xoxo

i had a great weekend!

my sister modeled 2 pairs of heels for me. thin heels, sparkle, PINK…there’s a lot of good going on with both those pairs!

i just want a thousand pairs of high heels right now….*sigh*

i went to a wedding (reception) yesterday (october 15, 2011). it was beautiful.

the night was great, the food was great, the company was great. at the wedding tony and i attended 2 weeks ago, i got to snatch one of the centerpieces. i was able to do so at this wedding, too. after the reception, we went to blackfinn in addison to meet up with friends and another wedding party group. it was a blast, hanging out with good company. i also ended up going home with a bouquet of flowers gifted to me at 2 a.m.!!!!!!

wow, i got flowers from one wedding and two guys! ❤ so sweet!

AND HOW ABOUT THEM RANGERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

today (october 16, 2011) is boss’s day. unfortunately, my boss was not feeling well today so he didn’t get to come to work to this:

i try to show my appreciation as much as i can…whether it be with a simple “thank you” or a gift…and i mean show my appreciation in general, not just for boss’s day. every day. we all never know when we are appreciated. sometimes the little things can make a person’s day. i always feel good when people thank me for something that i do. that’s all i need and i’m a happy camper. =)

here are a few questions that were asked today. i figure i’d answer them for the world to read….

what makes you tick?

-what makes me angry? being lied to. when people tug on the sleeve of my shirt..for some reason it sets me off. there are other ways to get my attention, and i prefer that it not be tugging on the sleeve of my shirt. umm…what else. i’m sure there are a few others, but i can’t think of them at the moment. i don’t like being around obnoxiously drunk people…the ones that breath down my neck and stick their face in mine and hang onto me and try to kiss me. yeah, i get that a few times. i don’t like it.

what makes you happy?

-oh, wow. i could go for days on this one. food. my nephew. my family. my friends. flowers. the color pink. writing. listening to music. driving with the windows down in the middle of the night. hanging out with friends outdoors at night. shoes. cupcakes. sightseeing. museums. soft things. feeling productive. midday naps. ice cream. snow-lots of it. game nights with friends. making people happy…to name a few…

what makes you really sad?

-when unfortunate things happen to good people. when i think i’m being ignored. when my friends don’t want to talk to me about certain things. when my nephew says i’m too busy to play with him. that last one goes straight to the heart. valentine’s day also makes me sad. but it’s hard to be sad because my favorite color is pink and i see it for days prior to the day. =)

what do you like to do on a rainy day?

-sleep in!!!!!!!! i actually like to use rainy days to clean and do laundry, if i’m off from work. if someone wants to play in the rain with me, i’m down for that. those would make good pictures. =) but this isn’t saipan…people don’t run around in the rain here. darn.

do you like to cuddle?

-yes. i’m a girl. don’t we all?

what cheers you up when you’re sad?

-food. starbucks (iced tall/grande with whip white mocha). blink 182. a good friend. and getting lost in a book store.

what is your favorite season?

-fall. it’s like spring, but with not as much rain, and the temperature is nice. summer is my next favorite because i’m a pacific islander, i love heat. this 2011 texas summer was a little too much for me, but the past 8 were great! spring is the next season because i love flowers. i don’t dislike winter, but i have long hair, and i hate shocking people when i touch them. also, even though i wear them, i’m not fond of turtlenecks.

how do you drink your coffee?

-with 2-3 spoons of sugar and lots of flavored creamer. it turns into, “would you like some coffee with your cream and sugar?”

what is your greatest fear?

-rejection. even the slight possibility of getting turned down just eats me up. dating and job interviews are the worst.

where do you want to live when you get married?

-in a house. within a painless driving distance from my nephew. and i like to have neighbors, so that rules out the country side. but i don’t want to live in the city. but i’ve never thought of this question, so i might change my mind a year from now!

what is on your bucket list?

-sky dive. travel…and travel A LOT. visit all 50 states. ride a hot air balloon. own a ferrari. those are a few, and those will happen.

that is all for now.

so……about 2 months ago, my dad told me that there is a russian couple that lives in saipan. they have a 12 year old daughter that collects the quarters for all 50 states but she’s missing one. oklahoma. my dad asked me to find an oklahoma quarter and send it to her. i found one later that night. one of the ladies on my pool team was nice enough to give me the oklahoma quarter that she found in her quarter stash, so i sent it to the little girl with a pretty card. my dad said she was so excited that she called her relatives in russia to tell them about my card. how sweet. well, i just sent her a US virgin islands quarter and told her that her collection is not complete. now i need to find a puerto rico, american samoa, guam, and northern mariana islands quarter. the northern mariana islands happens to the be rarest one in the entire batch of quarters, but i’m not worried about that one. my dad said he got me a roll of BU (brilliant uncirculated) NMI quarters. woohoo! i think they’re the prettiest quarters…not because that’s where i’m from or anything…but this is why:

The Northern Mariana Islands quarter reverse design represents the wealth of the islands in its natural resources of land, air and sea.  Near the shore stands a large limestone latte, the supporting column of ancient indigenous Chamorro structures.  A canoe of the indigenous Carolinians represents the people’s seafaring skills across vast distances.  Two white fairy tern birds fly in characteristic synchrony overhead.  A Carolinian mwar (head lei) composed of plumeria, langilang (Ylang Ylang), angagha (peacock flower) and teibwo (Pacific Basil) borders the bottom of the design near the inscription, NORTHERN MARIANA ISLANDS.  The mwar is symbolic of the virtues of honor and respect.

there you have it. the latte stone, canoe, birds, and best-smelling flowers in the universe all in one quarter:

i miss home. and my parents. it’s definitely in reverse order.

big things have been happening lately. big things are about to happen. i need good vibes and good energy and good wishes from everyone!

have a wonderful week, y’all!

the state fair of texas 2011…in 60 pictures…

the state fair of texas is too much fun. there’s always so much to do and not enough time in a day to do it. i did a lot of things that i have never done before…like get free stuff…eat free food…test drive cars…shoot on a $10,000 roped off pool table…watch shows i’ve never seen before…it was too much fun. a day later, my calves are paying for it.

i told penny to watch out for anything i could use for my “shoe inspiration” and a few minutes after i said that, we found the GLUE A SHOE display cases! i loved those creative shoes!

when i take pictures, i seem to take WAY MORE pictures of the cars than anything else. if i posted all the pictures i wanted to post up, i’d probably give this blog a heart attack. besides, i want to go to the fair again, so i’ll be posting more pictures. =)
