about me.
what about me?
hi, my name is sierra lei.
i was born on an itty bitty island called saipan.
if you do not know where saipan is, then you did not pay attention in history class…and there is always GOOGLE.
i grew up in private schools:
an adventist school for grade school.
a christian school for junior high.
a baptist college prep academy for high school.
then i packed my stuff up and flew to ALASKA for my senior year at my very first public school!
in between those school dates, i did a few things…like sing in choirs, perform in plays and broadway musicals, play softball, go on an ambassador tour around the united states, attend stanford university for summer school, compete in speech competitions, and read a lot.
during my earlier years, i was a tomboy. i think i was a tomboy before i started school, and the only reason why i think that is because of my kid pictures. some pictures are of me topless. i’m guessing that i was topless because my brother was allowed to run around without his shirt on, and i figured i could do that, too. other than being a topless tomboy when i was little, i was also scared of cameras. IMAGINE THAT. i think all my pictures in between the ages of 2-5 are of me all red-faced, crying, and terrified…of the camera.
everyone thinks i’m a dallas cowboys fan just because i currently live in texas.
no.
i’ve been a dallas cowboys fan since i was a kid.
i had a dallas cowboys trapper and dallas cowboys starter jacket and everything.
the carpet in my bedroom was navy blue and the carpet in my walk-in closet was gray.
i wanted to be a running back when i grew up.
i don’t think my mom appreciated that…
…and then i turned 16 and it was all about hot oil hair treatments and eyebrow trimmings and the love of the color pink.
after i graduated from high school, i moved back to saipan for 2 years. within those 2 years, i worked for the US Census and louis vuitton (i blame the latter for my bad shopping habits because i was never into fashion before then), i competed in the 2001 MISS NMI UNIVERSE pageant, i tutored 2 korean boys who are not boys anymore, and i went to korea during the world cup 2002. korea was where i had my first bungee jumping experience.
after my fun-filled summer had ended, i decided that it was time for another change. my sister was studying culinary arts in hawaii and my brother was about to graduate from college in georgia.
where did i want to go next?
not hawaii.
so i called my brother one day…
“where should we move to?”
“i don’t know…hmm…well, since i’ve already lived in alaska…let’s go from the biggest state to the smallest state…so how about texas?”
“okay, i pick the city. dallas.”
“done.”
and we moved our sister here less than a year later!
and that was that. there’s my wonderful and not-so-interesting story of how our current residence came about.
the funny thing was that we were only suppose to live in texas for a few years, but…
…that didn’t happen. =)
within the years of me moving here 9 years ago to now, i have experienced more than i have the first 20 years of my life.
some good, some bad…but all worth it.
i have always owned a journal, but i have always wanted to blog.
so here i am.
i have always considered myself to be a boring person, but everyone seems to think otherwise.
“you have the coolest stories!”
why, thank you!
i will be sharing with you anything from my childhood to what happened a year ago to the the best experiences of my life to random thoughts that pop into my head at 3 a.m. on a tuesday morning to my plans for the future to why i am the way i am to people that i love to how much i appreciate random acts of kindness to everything that inspires me to the cupcakes i make to things you might find interesting that i discover.
if there is anything that you would like me to blog about, feel free to email me:
sierralei@gmail.com
enjoy.
xoxo
Sierra, that is the most interesting and entertaining ‘About’ me section I have read, ever!
your blog is awesome! and i know where saipan is! your life is so cool. i appreciate cupcakes and random acts of kindness too. i think we will be friends.
thank you, ladies! i really appreciate it! i hope you enjoy what you read and if you have any requests as to what i should blog about, let me know! oh, and shreya, i love decorating cupcakes, so let me know what you think about them as i post them! haha! glad you enjoy! ❤
what a nice, simple, elegant blog. I love the way you format text. 🙂 Keep it up
thank you! i’m very new to this blogging business, and far from being refined as a writer. i’m very envious of a lot of bloggers on this site. hopefully i catch up to them!
Tomboys make the best women.
Look how well you turned out!
I was a tomboy too. Hurry for all of us.
i just noticed how recovering tomboys should be up there with the “i was fat and look at me now” girls. because the transformations are just as great. i find it VERY hard to believe that you were a tomboy. my guy friends say that since i was a tomboy, if i was a lesbian, i’d be a “lipstick lesbian.” HILARIOUS.
Thanks for liking my blog post, hopefully I can manage to get through this food challenge, if I pass there is another challenge lined up for me, be sure to keep tuned in 🙂
i bet you can get through it on $60! now, if you were a girl, that would be another story….haha!
thanks for the “like” sierralei, a eppreciate it. i’ll check out your posts too. continue…
Thanks for visiting my blog. After reading your “About Me”, I totally feel the need to re-vamp mine…. Or maybe move to Alaska. I can’t decide…
your blog is hilarious!!!! i like your “about me” section. you should throw in more questions there and make it a nice, long interview. it’s really cool! and dang, i wish i started blogging years ago like you are doing now. grrr.
why thank you! I’m glad people get entertainment out the idiots who routinely enter my life!
and you are right, i totally should come up with some more questions to ask myself….which makes me sound like a crazy person… crap…. lol
no, it’ll just make you cooler. haha. most “about me” sections aren’t as fun! i wanted to do a Q/A “about me” section but everyone kept asking me where i was from and how i ended up in texas, so that’s how the section came about. i would just say “go to http://www.sierralei.com and read about it” because i swear, if i have to tell that story one more time….ugh!
Man nice about page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You sound pretty awesome
aw, thank you! and the funny thing was that all last week i was thinking of redoing it! i guess i’ll keep it the way it is. maybe add a little more. hee hee….
Best “about me” ever!
aw, that’s so sweet! thank you! and i thought it was so boring. geez! then i noticed that most people don’t even put THAT much on their “about me” section!!!
You’re welcome:) and exactly haha that’s why yours was good. You actually took time to write some interesting things about yourself.
🙂
Don’t change a thing! Love your About Me page.
From a cupcake loving recovering tomboy.
Sierra~
Thanks for liking my wedding cake idea
if i wasn’t so wrapped up in planning my wedding and being the groom no less
I’d make the cake myself 🙂
~Matt
i am very much looking forward to this turtle cake topper/cupcakes idea! it’s so cool! especially when grooms get more involved than they usually are! i know because i work in the wedding industry, haha! you need to update the blog and say what the bakery thinks of your idea! woot!
this is what the baker told me in an email:
Hi Matt!
Turtles!!! Omg! I just squealed with excitement, scared the cat right off my lap! LOL
Vica is amazing! She makes me feel like I’m the only baker in the Valley :).
I will do some research and tuck some things aside so that when we do get to talk I’ll have a few things to share with you.
Until then, enjoy the time of not planning (even though everything you see will make her/you think wedding) and we’ll talk then.
Hugs and Butter Cream,
dina

aw, thank you!
Love learning about you that was cute. Well I am a makeup artist who also sells cosmetics. Luv your blos.
I just love all things pink too 🙂
i find it unusually weird that i used to hate the color and then fell in love with it overnight. it’s insane!
Thanks for stopping by, Sierra! I love your cupcakes, they are adorable!! Maybe one day i can sew some of your designs 🙂
THAT. WOULD. BE. SO. COOL!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi there! Cool blog and stories! Thanks for stopping by 🙂
Thanks for liking my blog “Kelley Hospitality.” I look forward to enjoyng your very interesting posts.
i LOVE banana bread. and i enjoyed that blog! the person could have even said, “well, it was made from your home, so it’s homemade!” haha! and have you ever had that friend who you wanted to tell to just stick to box mixes because the “made from scratch” just wasn’t doing it for them? hee hee. your recommendation on the box mix was great because you threw in what ingredients were in the mix, so that was awesome. =)
Thanks for visiting my site! This looks pretty interesting…I’ll be watching in a non-stalker way.
hahaha! hilarious!!!
Hi Sierra Lei,
I didn’t use Google, but I wanted to guess where you were born. Saipan… Hmmm, the name doesn’t ring a bell, but it sounds like a Pacific kind of name. Can I have two guesses? Great!
My first guess would be a country somewhere in the Pacific, like Fiji or Tonga. But you are an exceptional beauty of Tongan if that’s the case!
Ups, wrong? OK. The Philippines then. If this one is also wrong, then I’d stop here and let you let me know.
A nice blog you have here, by the way! Keep penning and keep inspiring, my lovely friend! 🙂
Subhan Zein
saipan is an island located in the pacific, so you are right! the PI is not that far away, either! it is a 3 hour plane ride east of the PI. i grew up around filipinos (and i just ate chicken adobo for dinner tonight) so you were very close to home with your guesses! saipan is near GUAM, which a lot of people are familiar with. we are located in the NORTHERN MARIANAS ISLANDS, which happens to be the most rare quarter that circulates in the U.S. =) when i say “rare” i mean only 77 million quarters were made compared to the 100+ million quarters that were made of each of the 50 states. hee hee!
Thanks for like my post :d
Love ur “about me”, it’s so nice .
Write more, guy!
Haha , i am a girl, not less, but from ur writing , i guess u are lovely girl:X .

Love the blog. Thanks for stopping in and following me. I look forward to reading more of your stories and random 3am thoughts.
why, thank you! i wanted to read something funny, so i typed in “humor” and ended up on your blog! it was hilarious!!! you’re just a jack-of-all-trades, aren’t you? pastor, father, blogger, writer. that’s admirable! keep it up and i liked the “10 things” blogs!!!
Thank you so much. So encouraging. I may be a jack-of-all-trades, but just don’t pay attention to my horrible grammar.
Thank you for reading and the “Like” of my post.

I actually thought I was one of the few who went from tomboy big check shirts and vestops with short hair to a big love for pink and everything cute and dainty.
Thanks for visiting and i’m madly in love with the white and pink wedding dress, I am very dark skinned and I think its exactly my fit, may I model it? i’d get a kick out of the pictures 🙂

aw, you’re so sweet! i want to make a dress that can be worn, that would be cool! i bumped into a blog of a lady that DID make a paper wedding dress and it was breathtaking. i need to find her again. i think it’s what she does for her job. that’s nuts!
Thanks for my ‘like’ Sierra, love your ‘About’ intro, just couldn’t stop reading it! Bet it’s lovely in Texas, I’ve never been, but hear they make the best Red Velvet cupcakes there!!
Have you been watching Cupcake Wars? I’m a bit obsessed with it at the moment, that and Unique Sweets on the Food Network – anything to distract from the rain and dull weather here in the UK at the moment 🙂
Dayna x
i need to find those red velvet cupcakes, then!!!!!
Trackbacked into your post – you are indeed interesting! Look forward to you dropping in more often – after all Alaska is not next door and that’s why we have the Blogosphere where we can all reside next to each other!

thanks for dropping by my blog! im not from the US but have been to Austin and I love Texas – it’s a lovely place! (i did a semester exchange in UT). i also love my jamba juice! hehe.
I’ve never been to Texas, but I have been to Saipan (and Tinian) quite a few years ago, where I heard a lot about the war and the cliff caves and the brown tree snake (which we are trying to avoid getting here in Hawaii). Like many others, now I’m thinking of expanding my About page b/c yours is so interesting. Thanks so much for the “like” on my Travels in Turkey: Food post. I look forward to reading more of your posts.

Thank you for the like on my blog! Booo to Dallas! Wahoo 49ers!
oh, no. we have a 49ers fan in my blog. you know, that’s the reason why i didn’t get along with my sister growing up. because in our dallas cowboys decked out bedroom, she had a 49ers pennant hanging in our walk-in closet. but, let me point out, that was when the cowboys actually won games. bahahaha! okay, i’ll always be a cowboys fan, rain or shine and win or lose, but i don’t hate the 49ers that much anymore. !! =)
Great store thanks for sharing 🙂
Sorry Story not store 🙂
Thanks for liking my blog — yours is delightful. I loved the eight-ball and nine-ball cookies! While I’ve always enjoyed cooking, I don’t bake all that much; and I CERTAINLY can’t decorate worth a flip!

Thanks for liking my blog! I like yours, too! Aaaand I *do* know where Saipan is because I spent 2 memorable years on Guam when I was in my 20s—before it became a tourist destination…during the years when it was a destination for the air evacuations of plane-loads of wounded boys from the battlles of Viet Nam. Given the nature of my presence there, I came to love it and was sad when it was time to leave.
