the oreo cupcake

i made oreo cupcakes tonight. how appropriate that oreo cookies celebrates their 100th birthday this year. =)

and because i don’t really taste test my cupcakes, i will be having my co-workers do that for me tomorrow.

i am backed up on the birthday cupcakes i need to make for my friends and co-workers, and i feel terrible. i have these great ideas for each person, but work has been keeping me busy lately. these oreo cupcakes are for the captain of one of my pool teams, duncan. i’d like to think he is one of my big cupcake fans. last year, i felt bad because i couldn’t make him cupcakes but i brought him some from my favorite cupcakery. the year before that i did make him cupcakes.

i made this particular icing for the first time. it involved heavy cream. now i have all this extra heavy cream that i don’t know what to do with. darnit! must find recipes that require heavy cream because i hate wasting…there are no oreos that will be wasted.

and here are the ones for this year.

in other news…

i think i will be attending a bridal show or two this weekend around dallas. i’m curious to see what goes on at different bridal shows, so i will be a “non-engaged” guest. hee hee. and hopefully i get to taste some cakes! woot!

that’s actually all i’ve got for now. i have to get back to work at 1 a.m….

xoxo

  1. I like to put heavy cream in my coffee, or you can put a little salt in it, and put it in a container and shake, shake, shake it while you watch a movie or something. When you are done, you can pour off the liquid, but what’ll be left is butter.

  2. Yum! I read previously that you use a Ziplock bag for piping lettering, but how do you get it so neat? My letters always end up too bulky or stringy, but yours are just perfect!

    • i make a buttercream icing and then i use the wilton dye paste, which thins the icing a little bit. then i cut a tiny bit off a ziplock bag. a tiny bit. i found out that i write better in cursive than in print, and i find it easier to do so! i have NO CLUE how it always ends up looking neat!!!

  3. Yummmm. Your piping letters are so neat!
You don’t taste test your cupcakes…but there are no leftover oreos. I would rather eat the cupcake! I would taste test the one with the intentional spelling mistake.

    • i’m not in the stage to make my own recipes. i try all sorts of recipes. i am always trying new recipes, even for one thing like buttercream icing. i like to see if they taste different or the same. i will be tweaking recipes soon because sometimes i think, “this could use more of this ingredient…” haha!

  4. Still have heavy cream left? Make mousse! 🙂 Whip it up, add in vanilla and your favorite flavor (cocoa powder and sugar; strawberry jam, etc.) and mix it in. Done 🙂
